Support to Adults
WE WANT TO SEE…

Support to Adults
We support adults who are HIV positive, as well as family members of those who have the virus. We now also support adults who have chronic illnesses such as TB, diabetes, or cancer.
Weekly Support Groups – here HIV positive adults learn more about the virus and how to live positively and make wise health choices. They benefit from the mutual support which breaks down the fear and stigma associated with being HIV positive. They grow in confidence as they receive emotional and spiritual support and are there by better able to engage with their communities, families, spouses and children. They receive skills training that have empowered some members to access employment.
Counselling sessions – this is offered to adults that request this service. The counselors assist HIV positive individuals to come to terms with there status and in particular share this with their family. The counseling also provides assistance to adults who may face other social problems, e.g. domestic violence, unplanned pregnancy.
Nutritional support – Food packs are available to those families in dire need. These are temporary gifts to assist during a time of great need or crisis. A partnership has been built with the FOOD BANK who provide a warm daily meal on the Khanyisa Community Church premises, and this supports many of our Izandla Zethemba beneficiaries.
Home visits – providing emotional and spiritual support as well as education to family members of those who are HIV positive.
Clinic Visit Support - Izandla Zethemba staff provide sick beneficiaries with transport to clinics, as well as advocacy to ensure that they get the medical care that they require.
Ecomomic Empowerment - We are exploring ways to equip our beneficiaries with skills that will help them move towards economic independence.
