A message from Izandla Zethemba Board
Izandla Zethemba has reached the point where much of our funding has dried up. At the same time the Khanyisa Elders and Izandla Zethemba Board have sensed that this is a good time to pause the activities of the organisation in order to reflect, pray and seek God on the way forward.
What does this mean?
It means that our staff’s contracts cannot be renewed at the end of August 2016. This is very difficult for us as the board as we are deeply concerned about the livelihoods of our staff.
It means that all our activities will be suspended at the end of August 2016, except for our Camp and our Youth Summit for which we have received specific funding. Our staff have developed meaningful friendships with the beneficiaries and so this ending is emotional. Our staff are currently looking at ways to manage this ending well so beneficiaries are well informed and do not feel abandoned.
It means that the Khanyisa Elders and Izandla Zethemba Board, together with other key stakeholders will be meeting to seek God on the next step for the organisation. Izandla Zethemba is a ministry of Khanyisa Church. As a registered Non Profit Organisation Izandla Zethemba has been a useful vehicle for the church to practically share love and care to the community. The future of the organisation will be decided by both the Izandla Board and Khanyisa Elders.
In the many meetings that have been taking place leading up to this decision to close our doors, there is a growing sense that that doors will not remain closed forever, and that we will open the doors again but in a different way. Khanyisa Church is deeply, deeply committed to working out mercy and justice in the surrounding community and sense that Izandla Zethemba remains a good way to do so.
However, the focus and the details of how this will be done still need to be worked out together in prayer and in community. We will be communicating this to you and our other partners as soon as we become clearer.
Thank your support and care for us over the years, and we hope you will stand with us during this uncertain time. If you have any questions arising from this communication, we would welcome further personal contact with you.
